Common questions.
What's the typical lead time for custom balustrades?
Most balustrade projects take 3-6 weeks from design approval to installation, with simpler designs usually quicker. Complex or large projects may take longer.
Can balustrades be installed on existing staircases?
Yes. We regularly retrofit balustrades to existing staircases, balconies and decks. We measure on-site to ensure a perfect fit.
Are your balustrades Australian Standards compliant?
Yes. Heights, spacing and structural integrity are designed in from the start to meet or exceed Australian building standards. We work to council and conservation requirements across Woollahra, Mosman and the North Shore.
Can you match the existing wrought iron on my property?
Yes. We replicate existing designs or create complementary pieces that match the heritage style of your home. Original scrollwork, period balcony detail, character that ties the property together.
What maintenance do wrought iron balustrades need?
With marine-grade primer and paint, maintenance is minimal. An occasional wash and inspection for chips is all that's needed.
What does a typical balustrade cost?
Cost depends on length, design complexity and finish. Send a photo of the space and a rough idea of the look you want and we'll come back same day with a price.
What's the minimum height required for balcony balustrades under NSW building codes?
Minimum 1 metre for balconies, decks and landings where the fall is over 1 metre, per the National Construction Code. Staircase handrails sit at 865mm. We build every job to current code so it passes building certification first time.
Can wrought iron balustrades double as a pool fence on Sydney properties?
Only if they meet AS 1926.1, which has stricter rules than a standard balustrade. Gap sizing, non-climbable zone, self-closing gate. We can build to that spec where the design and layout work, but it's usually cheaper and cleaner to have a separate pool fence.
Can balustrades be added to a Juliet balcony or upper-level terrace without major structural work?
Usually yes. Juliet balconies and upper-level terraces typically take wrought iron balustrades fixed into the existing wall, slab or post structure. We assess the fixing surface first and pick anchors that hold without compromising the structure.
