Common questions.

Is wrought iron the same as steel?

Wrought means 'worked'. True historical wrought iron is barely produced anymore. Modern wrought iron work like ours is fabricated from mild steel, which is actually stronger in tensile terms. The traditional look stays the same; the material underneath is more durable than the original.

How secure are wrought iron security doors?

Wrought iron is extremely strong and difficult to cut or bend. Combined with quality locks and hinges, our security doors provide excellent protection against forced entry.

Can security doors be decorative as well as functional?

Yes. We design security doors that suit the house, from heritage scrollwork to clean modern geometric patterns, while still doing their real job.

Do you install the security doors yourselves?

Yes. The same team that fabricates your door handles the installation. One point of contact from the first conversation through to the final fit.

What's the installation timeframe?

Most security door projects are completed within 3-6 weeks from design approval, with simpler designs usually quicker. This includes fabrication, finishing and installation.

Can you install pedestrian gates and side passage gates?

Yes. We fabricate and install pedestrian gates, side passage gates, garden gates and courtyard gates. Custom-built to suit the entrance.

What does a typical security door cost?

Cost depends on size, design complexity and finish. Send a photo of the doorway and a rough idea of the look you want and we'll come back same day with a price.

Will a wrought iron security door affect heritage streetfront approval in Woollahra or Mosman?

Heritage-listed homes usually need council sign-off on anything visible from the street. We design security doors to fit the proportions and detailing of the streetfront, so council approval is usually straightforward. Send photos and we'll work out what the council will want to see.

How does a wrought iron security door compare to a steel mesh or aluminium screen door?

Wrought iron is stronger and lasts longer than mesh or aluminium, especially on coastal Sydney homes where salt air eats thinner gauges fast. Custom design means the door fits the property rather than looking like an off-the-shelf retrofit. Costs more upfront, outlasts two or three replacements of the cheaper options.

Will a wrought iron security door fit existing door frames, or does the frame need replacing?

Most existing frames work with a custom security door measured to size. Older or out-of-square frames sometimes need shimming or a thin steel sub-frame to give the door a solid hang. We check during the quote so there are no surprises on install day.
